The Pennsylvania Environmental Council (PEC) is a
statewide, non-profit, education and conservation
organization devoted to promoting the protection of watersheds,
the sustainable uses of land, and the implementation of
environmental innovations. Since its founding
in 1970, the Council has worked toward sensible answers to the
Commonwealth’s difficult environmental issues.
PEC has had a continuous presence in Western Pennsylvania since
1989. In that time, PEC has been centrally
involved in a broad range of issues affecting the region’s
environmental recovery and ever-improving quality of life. The
primary focus of PEC’s current work is watershed conservation.
Both land and water-based, these efforts increase environmental
stewardship of our
natural assets while allowing for continued economic growth. PEC
is well-positioned to address watershed and land use projects on
the local and regional levels and
brings a statewide perspective from our other offices throughout
the Commonwealth and a long history in the halls of the state
capitol.
For a century and a half, we Pennsylvanians saw our rivers and
the watersheds that fed them as part of the industrial
infrastructure. Today, these same resources are
reemerging as an economic force, but one that serves a very
different economy that values quality of life, recreational
opportunities, and healthy ecosystems more than
at any time in memory. The Pennsylvania Environmental Council is
proud to play a part in this reemergence. |

Why River Walk Corporate Centre?
As the staff of
the Environmental Council grew, we needed to find an office
spacious enough to house our new employees. We were also seeking
an environmentally friendly
atmosphere with easy access to Downtown. The River Walk
Corporate Center offered us exactly that.
Adaptive reuse
of an historic building, a great view of the
City and the Monongahela River, easy access to bus lines
and the T, and a short walking distance to the South Side,
Station Square, and Downtown made the River Walk complex
an ideal location for us.
Moreover, the distinct historic character of the building was
appealing - from the original brick walls, to the large windows,
to the high ceilings - the office space is open and
airy, making it conducive to the interactive working style of
our staff. |
